With the regular season behind them, the Alabama women’s cross country team takes the first step into the postseason Monday (Nov. 3) at the Southeastern Conference Championships on the UGA Golf Course in Athens, Ga.
Alabama will be taking its youngest team in a decade to the Southeastern Conference Championships with a roster that includes five freshmen and two sophomores. Such youth gives the Crimson Tide a type of fearlessness.
“This team really hasn’t backed down or been intimidated all season,” coach Steve Keith said. “It’s been kind of fun in that regard. The only thing we’re really missing is the experience of competing at this level and even in that regard they’re learning meet by meet.”
The majority of the Tide’s firepower is centered in its freshman class.
“For this type of meet, this season, we have five bullets and four of them are freshmen,” Keith said.
Rookies Julia Hicks and Tara Enebak have been the Tide’s top-two finishers in all of its regular season meets. For the Tide’s lone senior, Kara Nowak, the SEC Championships is the beginning of her last post season.
