The Alabama women’s cross country team’s fast start this season has not gone unnoticed.
The Crimson Tide is ranked tenth in the latest NCAA South Region poll. Alabama has finished in the top-5 at all three of its meets this season, including a second place finish at the Blue Ridge Mountain Open, its last competition.
"Of course we are really pleased with being able to break into the top 10 in the region,” coach Steve Keith. “The overall depth and quality of the Region seems to have improved from previous years so it isn’t getting any easier. This recognition is especially satisfying considering we have such a very young team with five freshmen and one sophomore in our top six runners. But, to keep this in perspective, it is still three weeks from the SEC Conference meet and well over a month until the NCAA South Regional meet and our performances at those two championship events is what counts for our program."
The Tide is being led by the rookie duo of Julia Hicks and Tara Enebak who have four top-10 finishes between them and have finished all their races in the top-12.
Alabama returns to action this weekend at the Chili Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas. It will be the Tide’s first 6-kilometer race of the season.
