Alabama Diver Wins Event at Georgia Invitational

In the battle of the diving Bassham sisters, it was University of Alabama junior Lane who came out on top over Brooke, a sophomore at Georgia.
Lane Bassham won the one-meter board and finished second off the three-meter board at the 2003 Georgia Invitational held in Athens, Ga. on the UGA campus, while Brooke was 14th and seventh respectively.
The Alabama Bassham has been enjoying a strong season, starting things off with a pair of wins at the highly competitive SMU Classic in October. In winning the one-meter board this weekend, she posted a score of 555.10, 14 points better than second place. Lane scored 504.60 points to take second off the three-meter board.
Senior Katherine Bortenlanger finished third off the 10-meter platform, scoing 382.95 points. She was also eighth off the three-meter board, scoring 471.75 points.
On the men's side of the slate, sophomore Stewart Smith finished fourth off the one-meter with 635.50 points. The All-American was fifth off the 10-meter platform with 435.10 points.
The men and women's swimming and diving teams return to action next weekend again in Athens, Ga., taking on the Georgia Bulldogs in a dual meet.
