The 38th ranked University of Alabama women's tennis team will host No. 34 Washington State on Friday at 5:00 p.m. and Penn State on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. Both matches will be played in the Hank Crisp Indoor Tennis Facility.
Alabama (2-0) began their 2003 season with a pair of 7-0 victories over Georgia State and Chattanooga last Saturday. The Tide's Millie Begovic is ranked No. 71 in singles and No. 38 in doubles with teammate Robin Stephenson.
Washington State's Lorena Arias is ranked 79th in singles and 45th in doubles with Chris Martinez. The Alabama match will be the first dual match of the season for the Cougars.
Penn State (0-1) will face Washington State in Tuscaloosa on Saturday before facing Alabama on Sunday. The Nittany Lions lost 4-3 to 40th ranked Ohio State last Sunday.
"I am excited and the team is excited to have the 34th ranked Washington State Cougars and the Penn State Nittany Lions come play on our home courts," UA head coach Jenny Mainz said. "This is a great opportunity to play some teams out of our region and gain some more experience."
Free food and t-shirts will be available at both matches. Friday night will be "Seafood Gumbo Night" against Washington State. A free pancake breakfast will be served to those in attendance at the Penn State match Sunday morning.
