The University of Alabama women’s tennis team will take on Georgia State at 9:00 a.m. and Chattanooga at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday to kick off their 2003 dual match season.
Alabama enters Saturday’s matches ranked No. 38 in the country. The Tide’s Millie Begovic is ranked No. 71 in singles and No. 38 in doubles along with partner Robin Stephenson.
“This team is ready to play,” UA head coach Jenny Mainz said. “Georgia State and Chattanooga are solid teams and I have respect for both of them. We need to be ready and come out of the gates fast and win the doubles point. We need that momentum early.”
Former Alabama tennis standout Jill Breslin, is the assistant coach for Georgia State. Breslin played for the Crimson Tide from 1996-1999 primarily at the number one position in singles.
“I think it will be a good weekend to evaluate doubles combinations,” Mainz said. “It is great to be playing at home in front of our home crowd.”
A free pancake breakfast will be served for those who attend the Georgia State match. Chicken sandwiches will be served at the Chattanooga match. Also, free Alabama tennis stress balls and T-shirts will be given away.
