The University of Alabama women’s tennis team is ranked 38th in the Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings released Monday. The Crimson Tide finished last season ranked No. 40 following their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
Junior Millie Begovic is ranked No. 71 in the preseason singles rankings. Begovic and freshman Robin Stephenson are No. 38 in the doubles rankings. Last season Begovic finished ranked No. 42 in doubles along with Weyli Chang.
Alabama is also represented well in the regional rankings. In singles, Begovic is No. 15, Stephenson is No. 23 and Sophie Cremers is No. 28 in the South Region. In doubles, Begovic and Stephenson are No. 8 while Cremers and Ashley Bentley are No. 13. This is the most representation the Crimson Tide has had in the regional rankings since head coach Jenny Mainz has been at Alabama.
“That was a goal for our program,” UA head coach Jenny Mainz said. “We wanted to create more of a presence in the South Region. I was really proud of the team.”
Alabama opens the season on January 25 against Georgia State at 9:00 a.m. and UT Chattanooga at 2:00 p.m. Both matches will be in Tuscaloosa.
