Crimson Tide Tennis Finishes Harvard Invitational

Alabama Men's tennis completed a successful weekend at the Harvard Invitational on Sunday while Senior Max Belski finished with a win in Kentucky at the Charles Fluitt Invitational in Lexington.
Belski, who is currently ranked 30th in the country by the Intercolligant Tennis Association defeated Tulane's Victor Romero,6-3, 5-7, 6-4. Romero ranked 39th by the ITA. On Saturday He defeated Kentucky's Matt Emery, 6-3, 6-4 and lost to Jesse Witten, also of Kentucky 6-3, 7-6 (3). Witten is currently the
top ranked player in the country according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. On Friday he fell to No. 19 Alex Hartman of Ole Miss (4-6, 5-7), and No. 9 Bobby Reynolds from Vanderbilt (3-6, 2-6).
In Boston, the TIde won two doubles matches over Notre Dame. Chris Gostek and William Boyles defeated Aul McNaughton and Ben Hatten of and Christian Brodersen and Brian Isern defeated Eric Langenkamp and Patrick Buchanan 8-2.
"We did get a little banged up," said head coach Billy Pate. "Nontheless we had a good weekend. I was good to get the younger guys some good experience."
Competing teams included Alabama, Notre Dame, Brown, Princeton, Rutgers, UNLV and host Harvard.
The tournament used a 'hidden dual' format which gives teams a chance to experiment with their singles lineups and doubles combinations early in the season. Teams compete head-to- head, but only individual singles and doubles results are recorded and count toward ITA National and Regional rankings. (There are no team head-to-head scores or team 'winners' declared.
Singles matches are two regular scoring sets with a 10-point match tiebreaker determining the winner in cases of split sets. Doubles matches are one 8 game pro-set with a tiebreaker at 8-all. In NCAA Division I tennis, service lets are in play. The Tide will head to Atlanta for the Georgia Tech Invitational on October 11.
