Alabama Men’s Tennis completed their first day of competition at the Harvard Invitational with Chris Gostek’s wire-to-wire victory over Notre Dame’s
Matt Scott on Friday.
Competing teams included Alabama, Notre Dame, Brown, Princeton, Rutgers, UNLV and host Harvard. Play was moved indoors due to inclement weather.
The tournament uses a 'hidden dual' format which gives teams a chance to experiment with their singles lineups and doubles combinations early in the season. Teams compete head-to- head, but only individual singles and doubles results are recorded and count toward ITA National and Regional rankings. (There are no team head-to-head scores or team 'winners' declared.)
Singles matches are two regular scoring sets with a 10-point match
tiebreaker determining the winner in cases of split sets. Doubles matches
are one 8 game pro-set with a tiebreaker at 8-all. In NCAA Division I
tennis, service lets are in play.
The Tide’s Max Belski traveled to Kentucky with assistant coach Mario
Rincon for the 2002 Charles Fluitt Invitational at the Hilary J. Boone Varsity Tennis Complex Lexington. He fell to No. 19 Alex Hartman of Ole Miss (4-6, 5-7), and No. 9 Bobby Reynolds from Vanderbilt (3-6, 2-6).
