TUSCALOOSA, ALA - At the 15th running of the Alabama hosted Crimson Classic cross country meet held at the Harry Pritchett Golf Course today, the Crimson Tide women took second place, good for their second top-5 finish of the season.
Freshman Nicole Abram and junior Virnetta Greene finished seventh and eighth respectively leading Alabama to a 75-point finish. Abram ran a time of 19 minute 04.65 second while Greene posted a 19:12.11 over the 5-kilometer course.
"Our top-two runners had a great race," Alabama women's cross country coach Steve Keith said. "And Emily Green had a super race, moving up to be our third finisher after Ashley Roberts had to drop out of the race with cramps."
Green, a freshman, took 23rd place with a time of 20:26.62. She was the fourth rookie in the race to cross the line.
Junior Kara Nowak took 25th with a 20:28.89 while sophomore Tricia Bohan finished 30th at 20:45.20.
"Kara and Tricia did a nice job of holding on to their spots at the fourth and fifth position," Keith said. "We have better races ahead of us, but we saw some good things out there today."
Auburn won the women's race by sweeping the top-5 spots in the individual race, good for a meet low of 15 points. Junior Catherine Wanyoike took first with an 18:15.23 finish.
Alabama returns to action Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Clemson Invitational in Clemson, S.C.
