Charlottesville, VA -- Alabama junior Christen Broderson won his singles and doubles flights at the Virginia Invitational tennis tournament on Sunday.

Along with teammate Brian Isern, he won doubles flight “C” over Mirko Ivanda of Wake Forest and his tournament partner Virginia Tech’s Adel Abbas.
It was gratifying season opener for Alabama’s new head coach, Billy Pate.
“Overall it was a good effort and a good start to the season,” said Pate. “There were positive results and we have a lot to build for the rest of the year. We’re looking forward to next week at Harvard.”
The three-day event features three singles draws of 32 players and 3 doubles draws of 16 teams. Flight A features six players ranked by the ITA nationally in the 2002-03 preseason rankings, including Alabama’s Max Belski, who is currently ranked 30th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s preseason poll.
