The University of Alabama women’s cross country team was recently named one of the Intercollegiate Cross Country Coaches Association’s NCAA-I All-Academic Teams for the 2001 season.
The Crimson Tide, under the direction of first year coach Steve Keith, was one three Southeastern Conference teams to earn the elite honor. Arkansas and South Carolina were the other two.
“Obviously this is an award that we are very proud of,” Keith said. “I can’t stress enough the importance of an Alabama education. It’s something the will hold our athletes in good stead for the rest of their lives.”
As a team, Alabama posted a 3.15 grade point average. This season marks the second time in five years that the Tide’s cross country program has earned All-Academic recognition. The Tide also earned the honor in 1998.
