Utah, Georgia and Nebraska Advance in NCAA Championships

TUSCALOOSA – The first three teams to advance to Friday night’s “Super Six” of the NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championships are Utah, Georgia and Nebraska. The trio had the top scores from Thursday’s first of two sessions.
Twelve teams began the championships which are being held Thursday through Saturday at the University of Alabama’s Coleman Coliseum. Thursday’s first day of competition is broken into two sessions with six teams competing in each session. The top three team scores from each session, one at 1 p.m. CT and the second at 7 p.m. CT, advance to the “Super Six” which will be Friday night at 7 p.m. CT. The national team champion is determined then. Saturday night’s competition will determine individual national champions in each event and will be held at 7 p.m. Tickets are available and may be purchased at the door or during the day at the Coleman Coliseum Box Office.
Utah bested the six teams in the early session by scoring 196.775. The Utes scored 49.100 in vault, 48.950 in bars, 49.450 on beam, and 49.275 on floor. Georgia was second at 196.650 (49.200 vault, 49.000 bars, 49.300 beam, 19.150 floor) and Nebraska was third at 196.575 (49.300 vault, 49.150 bars, 49.050 beam and 49.075 floor).
Competing but not advancing to the second night were Michigan at 196.175 (4,9225 vault, 48.500 bars, 49.200 beam, 49.250 floor), LSU at 195.850 (48.925 vault, 48.750 bars, 48.800 beam, 49.375 floor) and Arizona 194.975 (48.825 vault, 48.700 bars, 48.475 beam, 48.975 floor).
