Women's Track and Field Finds Success On Split Weekend

The Alabama women's track and field team split up this weekend with some athletes traveling to Philadelphia, Penn. for the 107th annual Penn Relays while another group stayed closer to home, competing in the Samford Twilight Invitational.
One athlete, sophomore high jumper Erin Price, competed in both meets. She finished sixth at the Penn Relays with a leap of 5-03.75. She then won the Samford meet with a season best mark of 5-05.
The Tide's 4x100 relay took fifth at the Penn Relays with a 45.59. Freshman LaTasha Pharr took third in her preliminary heat of the 100m hurdles, turning in a time of 14.01. Pharr also competed in the triple jump, leaping to 38.03.25, good for 12th place at the meet.
At the Samford Twilight, senior Aly Mills took second in the 3000m run with a season best 11:23.04. Junior Kara Nowak also turned in a season best time in the 1500m run with a 5:03.39 good for sixth place.
In the pole vault, freshman Sarah Soule posted a mark of 10 feet for second place while fellow rookie Lauren White cleared 8-06.5, good for third.
In the shot put, junior Nadia Krell took first in the discus with a 148.00 toss while classmate Naomi Elliott took second in the shot put with a throw of 41-08.
Alabama will now have a weekend off from competition before traveling to Starkville, Miss. for the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships May 10-13.
