Courtney and McClain Named NFCA All-Americans

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) has announced that freshman Ashley Courtney and sophomore Jackie McClain have been named to the 2002 NFCA All-America teams.
Courtney was named the 1st Team All-America designated player, while McClain was named to the 2nd team as a first baseman.
Courtney, who was the lone freshman from the Southeastern Conference to be named a 1st Team All-American performer, led the Tide with a .402 average and 74 hits. She ranked second on the team in runs scored (44). She finished the season ranked in the Top 10 of eight individual season categories. Her 15 doubles was fifth most doubles in a season by an Alabama player while her .402 average was the sixth highest batting average in a season.

Alabama has now been honored with 12 NFCA All-American selections since the program’s inception in 1997. Courtney’s selection makes her the seventh different Alabama player to be named to the All-America team, and second straight year a Crimson Tide freshman has been named a 1st Team All-American performer.
