PALO ALTO, Calif.-- University of Alabama women’s doubles team Millie Begovic and Weyli Chang lost 6-2, 6-1 to Florida's third-seeded Lindsay Dawaf and Jessica Lehnhoff in the opening round of the NCAA Doubles Tournament at Stanford University on Wednesday.
Begovic and Chang were just the fourth Alabama doubles team to compete for the NCAA Doubles Championship and the first since 1995. Begovic and Chang entered their first-round match ranked 56th in nation.
"I am very proud of the girls for getting this far," UA head coach Jenny Mainz said. "We just did not play well today and made too many unforced errors. It was a great experience and great opportunity for our program."
As a team, Alabama finished the season with a 13-11 record and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row. It marked the fourth time in team history to qualify for the NCAA Tournament.
