COLLEGE STATION, TEX. – University of Alabama junior Maxim Belski lost in the second round of the 2002 NCAA Men’s Tennis Individual Tournament to Al Garland of Pepperdine in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. Garland is the number five seed and is ranked third in nation, according to the Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings.
“This has been a great accomplishment for Max,” said Alabama head coach Adam Steinberg. He’s been to the tournament three years in a row. That is fantastic in itself. Winning the first round was great for him. He just ran into a great player today. It really was a bad match-up for Max.
Belski, ranked 57th, finishes the year with a record of 11-13. It is the third consecutive year that he reached the NCAA Tournament, and the second year in a row in the singles championships. He participated in the 2000 Championships in the doubles bracket
