Luigi had a breakthrough fall season in 2004 in his first semester of competition as a collegiate player. By the end of the fall season he emerged as one of the top players in collegiate tennis and is expected to be ranked among the nation's top players when the spring singles rankings are released. Luigi recorded an Alabama fall record 17 singles wins against only 4 losses and defeated six nationally ranked opponents. He also captured the Inaugural Crimson Tide Fall Championships in October with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Marko Miklo of UVA. Prior to that he fought through three rounds of qualifing and two rounds of the main draw at the prestigious ITA All Americans before bowing out in the Round of 16 to the nation's number one player Sam Warburg of Stanford. In his final tournament of the fall Luigi reached the finals of the Southern Cal Intercollegiates and nearly became the second non-California player in the 39 years of the tournament to win the title. He has demonstrated a calmness under pressure in posting an impressive 6-0 record in three set matches as well as posting a 7-4 record with Eric Molnar in doubles during the fall.
He has a tall, rangy build with unsurpassed quickness on the court and is a natural athlete and fastest member of Tide squad. He has the ability to play an all-court aggressive game and possesses a world class level serve and return. Luigi likes to play an up tempo style with penetrating groundstrokes and possess a unique ability to take the ball exceptionally early. He will most likely to play No. 1 for the Tide this spring.
