CHICAGO-- Alabama senior basketball players Shondra Johnson and LaNisha Cartwell will participate in the Women’s National Basketball Association’s (WNBA) annual pre-draft camp at the Moody Bible Institute on Friday and Saturday.
Johnson, an All-SEC guard from New Orleans, and Cartwell, a center from Montevallo, Ala., join more than 80 other collegiate players at the two-day event. Two-a-day sessions will be held on both days for the participants with all 16 WNBA teams scouting and evaluating the players in preparation for the league’s upcoming draft on April 19.
The Tide duo, who helped guide Alabama to a 19-12 finish this year including a trip to the WNIT quarterfinals, hopes to catch the eye of a team scout and become the next Crimson Tide player in the U.S. professional league. Six former UA players have played in the WNBA including current players Shalonda Enis, Dominique Canty and Tausha Mills.
