Tide Falls to Sixth-Ranked Vanderbilt Commodores, 6-1

The University of Alabama women’s tennis team lost 6-1 to the 6th ranked Vanderbilt Commodores on Sunday. No. 41 Alabama drops to 12-8 overall on the season and 3-7 in the SEC.
The Commodores jumped out to a 1-0 lead by winning at number two and number three doubles. At number one doubles, Bama’s Millie Begovic and Weyli Chang won 8-6 over Vanderbilt’s 7th ranked doubles team of Sarah Riske and Aleke Tsoubanos. Vandy’s 50th ranked combo of Kate Burson and Annie Menees won 8-6 over Alabama’s Jenny Ketchum and Selia Mathew at number two doubles. The Commodores’ Jenny Miller and Audra Falk defeated the Crimson Tide’s Becca Baum and Stefanie Leung 8-1 at number three doubles.
The Commodores would then take five of six singles matches for the 6-1 victory over the Tide. At number one singles, VU’s 11th ranked Riske defeated UA’s Mathew 6-2, 6-3. Vandy’s 38th ranked Miller won 6-0, 6-1 over Bama’s Ketchum at number two singles. Vanderbilt’s 114th ranked Burson defeated Alabama’s Begovic 6-2, 6-0 at number three singles. Chang earned Bama’s lone point with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at number four singles over Vandy’s Menees. At number five singles, VU’s Tsoubanos won 6-2, 6-3 over UA’s Baum. The Commodores’ Falk won 7-5, 5-7, 10-5 at number six singles over the Crimson Tide’s Leung.
Alabama will finish up its regular season schedule with a match at UAB on Friday and at Auburn on Sunday. The Crimson Tide will then travel to Columbia, South Carolina, for the SEC Tournament from April 18-21.
