The Southeastern Conference has announced that Alabama goalie Laura Lowman has been named SEC Soccer Player of the Week.
Lowman held No. 25 ranked Auburn scoreless as the Tide and the Tigers played to a 0-0 tie and then recorded a shutout on Sunday at UT-Martin who ranks 21st in the nation in scoring offense.
“Laura’s a lot like a backup quarterback,” said Alabama Head Coach Don Staley. “She works extremely hard in practice but she hasn’t been in a position to play until this weekend. What she accomplished should really give her confidence heading into possible postseason play and next spring.”
The shutouts were Lowman’s fourth and fifth of the season and helped lower her goals-against-average (GAA) to 0.17. She has allowed only one goal this season in 517 minutes of action while recording 472 consecutive scoreless minutes. Her five shutouts rank her fourth in career shutouts in school history.
The Crimson Tide closed out their regular season this past weekend with a tie at Auburn and a 3-0 win at UT-Martin. Lowman and her teammates will now sit and await its fate for the NCAA Tournament. The selection will be made on Sunday, November 10.
