TUSCALOOSA – The University of Alabama women’s basketball team added its third signee in the NCAA’s early signing period when head coach Rick Moody announced the signing of Mississippi prep standout Navonda Moore to a national letter-of-intent to play for the Crimson Tide next season.
Moore, a 5-10 wing player from Jackson, Miss., is a four-year standout from Murrah High School. A first team All-State performer, Moore helped guide MHS to a 32-3 record and a state championship last year. It was Murrah’s fourth title in the last five years. A talented all-around player she averaged 18.7 points, 10 rebounds, 3.6 steals and 2.5 assists a game as a prep junior. Moore comes from the same high school as current UA men’s basketball star Mo Williams.
“Navonda is a tremendously athletic perimeter player,” said Moody. “She comes from a strong high school program and knows what it takes to win. She has a winning attitude on and off the court and is as athletic as any player on our team. Navonda is one of the top candidates for the Miss Basketball award in Mississippi this year.”
Moore becomes the third early signee for the Crimson Tide joining Tamisha Hamilton and Krista Watson as a member of UA’s incoming class for 2003.
Moody and the 2002-03 edition of Alabama women’s basketball will open the season Friday night versus Samford at 5 p.m. in Birmingham.
