The University of Alabama women’s tennis team is preparing for the ITA South Regionals to be held in Troy, Alabama, on October 25-28 with Troy State serving as the regional host.
“I think that we are ready,” UA head coach Jenny Mainz said. “This will be a measuring stick of where we are in our region. It also is a good test to see where we are in our conference as a total of six teams from our conference are also in our region.”
The Crimson Tide will take eight players to Troy for the tournament. The event will consist of two singles and two doubles draws. Singles draw “A” will have 64 players and doubles draw “A” will have 32 teams. The “B” draws will consist of 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams.
The South Region consists of 33 teams from the states of Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia and Florida. The two finalists of singles draw “A” will receive a bid to the Omni National Indoors in Dallas, Texas, from November 7-10. Also, the doubles champion of draw “A” receives a bid to Dallas.
“One of the goals has been to create more of a presence in the South Region,” Mainz said. “In the past we have not created enough presence, therefore we want to have a strong showing at the regionals.”
Alabama’s final tournament of the fall will be at the SEC Fall Coach’s Classic in Peach Tree City, Georgia, from November 8-10.
