Two selections apiece on offense and special teams with one on defense
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Alabama coaching staff recognized five players of the week following the Crimson Tide's 41-10 victory over Fresno State in last Saturday's home opener at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Jalen Hurts and Matt Womack on offense, Anthony Averett on defense, and Keith Holcombe and Mack Wilson on special teams.
Hurts paced the offensive attack, accounting for 282 yards of total offense in the victory. The Tide quarterback produced a career-best 154 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground to mark the fourth 100-yard rushing game of his career. Hurts also added a touchdown through the air while completing 77.8 percent of his passes (14-of-18) for 128 yards and a score. Matt Womack helped provide time for the offense to develop without committing a penalty, and did not allow a sack or quarterback hurry. The redshirt sophomore graded out a 90 percent from the right tackle position and accounted for three knockdown blocks on the afternoon to earn his first honors from the UA coaching staff.
Averett led the Crimson Tide in defensive production points and helped limit the Fresno State passing attack to only 216 yards. The senior cornerback made four tackles with three solo stops, while recording his first career interception and returned it 30 yards, setting up an eventual Alabama field goal.
The pairing of Holcombe and Wilson helped limit the Bulldogs to zero punt return yards, while Holcombe highlighted the Crimson Tide's kickoff coverage efforts. The Tuscaloosa native tallied three of his career-high seven tackles on the kickoff team, finishing his day ranked third in total tackles for UA.
