TUSCALOOSA, Ala.  – The Minnesota Golden Gophers (56-4) beat the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters (38-24) 5-2 in the ninth inning in the second elimination game at the 2017 NCAA Softball Tuscaloosa Regional in Rhoads Stadium Sunday afternoon.
Minnesota returns to action immediately in in the regional's potential championship game, facing the Alabama Crimson Tide. A win by the Tide would advance them to the NCAA Softball Gainesville Super Regional, while a Minnesota victory would force a deciding game seven.
The two teams kept the game knotted throughout the first eight innings, with both teams plating runs in the fourth and seventh inning to push the game into extra innings. Minnesota, which managed 13 hits in the game, pushed across three runs in the top of the ninth and then blanked the Lady Techsters in the bottom half of the inning to take the win.
Sara Groenewegen picked up the win for the Gophers, pushing her record to 31-3 on the season, while Bailey Allen took the loss for Louisiana Tech, finishing her season at 7-3.
