Day Three: May 20
Woke up this morning about 8:15, ate breakfast and then left for the field around 9:45. We are so lucky to play in such beautiful weather. The California sun with a cool breeze is a perfect environment for softball. Our game today against Central Michigan was sweet success. Although we left a little room for improvement looking a little sloppy and a little passive, but we came out on top thanks to great pitching by Erin Wright and key hitting by Steph (VanBrakle) and Dom (Accetturo). Leah White had a good bunt and Deasy Phillips had a great steal. Everyone on the team contributed to the win.
This win brings us to our game tomorrow against Cornell on ESPN! One down – three to go! Following the game, we ate at Subway and Quizno’s on Wilshire. We were brought here because of an unidentified package found in the street where we had planned on eating. This shut down three streets. After lunch, we sat outside on the sidewalk where we waved and yelled “Roll Tide” at passing cars. People here are actually pretty friendly. Jen Wright noted in the ten minutes outside that she had counted 101 cars ranging between $30,000-250,000 that had passed by.
Did I mention that we go everywhere in our uniforms? We then walked over to Niketown and did a little shopping before heading back to the hotel.
Our celebrity sighting of the day was Andy Dick from “Newsradio” and “The Andy Dick Show” and Barry Manilow.
Tonight we ate outside at the Cheesecake Factory. It was a lot of fun as we talked about the game, relationships, and how much we have enjoyed playing here. We were interrupted by a “crew” of 12-year old “homies” who were all related and Persian. They were so cute and tried to sing “Sweet Home Alabama” to us.
I am now about ready to go to bed. We are anxious and ready to play Cornell, and everyone is determined to keep winning and playing one game a day bringing us to Championship day. Today I felt so blessed to be a part of this team. We are so talented, so classy and very deserving of a ticket to the World Series. We are looking forward to another win tomorrow and for another beautiful day. I am so happy we are on TV because I know it means so much to the players that family, friends and fans who can’t be here are watching.
Good night, Roll Tide and God Bless Alabama Softball!!
