The 32nd ranked University of Alabama women’s tennis team begins Southeastern Conference play this week against No. 65 LSU on Friday at 3:00 p.m. and No. 67 Arkansas on Sunday at noon in Tuscaloosa.
“This is a big weekend,” UA head coach Jenny Mainz said. “The team is eager and enthusiastic to start the SEC season.”
Alabama (8-1) is coming off a 4-3 win over Florida State in Tallahassee, Florida. UA’s Millie Begovic is ranked 71st in the Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis singles rankings that were released Wednesday. Begovic and Robin Stephenson moved up five spots in the doubles rankings to No. 33.
“We have played some good out of conference opponents,” Mainz said. “I feel more ready for SEC play than I have in the past.”
LSU enters Friday’s match with a record of 6-3. Arkansas is 5-1 on the season and will face Auburn on Friday before facing the Crimson Tide on Sunday. Arkansas’ Megan Ferreira and Monica Dybicz are ranked 47th in doubles.
Both matches will be played outdoors at the Varsity Courts. In the case of inclement weather, the matches will be played at the Hank Crisp Indoor Facility. Free food and Alabama tennis t-shirts will be available at the matches.
