What's your favorite team memory from your time here so far?
"There have been so many great memories; it is hard to pick one instance that I could choose as my favorite. Every race has its own unique memory, such as Oak Ridge and its muddy conditions or Chattanooga and its rain. You will never forget when you beat Tennessee nor the rush you get crossing the finish line with Emily Navin yelling "SURGE!" with every stroke and winning the race by 0.1 seconds."
What inspired you to first start rowing?
"I attended the walk-on meeting Fall of my freshman year. Coach Derek played the inches video. As cheesy as it sounds, I was so motivated by the team aspect and the commitment it takes to row, that I decided to dedicate the next four years to rowing at Alabama."
What made you choose to come to Alabama?
"I chose to come to The University of Alabama based on my academics, but I stayed for the rowing team."
What's your funniest team memory from your time here so far?
"Any memory connected with laughter on this team involves my sister, Lauren Taylor, or Olivia DeGroot. The one that stands out the most is Liv dressing up as Coach Davis for this year's Winter Training skits. She gave us a lively rendition of his "BOOM, send" anthem, whilst having a painted thick mustache on her face and a full denim outfit, styled with a nice flannel shirt wrapped around her waist."
What advice would you give to your freshman self if you had the chance?
"'Enjoy the little moments.'Â I wish I had learned to enjoy the small things more, such as Spring Training, practice getting out on time or when the boat has a really nice run."
What is your life motto?
"'If you can make it half way through, you can finish anything.'Â -Raien Emery. This mainly applies to rowing a 2K or anything on the erg, but it has definitely helped me through more than just hard workouts."
Any other closing comments?
"I just want to say how grateful I am for each of my friendships I have made. Memories were made on and off the water, such as one-day weekend trips together or wearing American flag headbands as a Jen Parker tribute. I cannot wait until we start racing. Last one, fast one. Also, thank you to my family for coming to most every race no matter the distance. Thanks for cheering on a sport you had to learn about with me."
